Merseyside & West Lancashire Bat Group
The Merseyside & West Lancashire Bat Group (MWLBG) was formed in 1985 to promote bat conservation in our region and raise an awareness of these fascinating animals that are the only mammals capable of true and sustained flight.
The Common Pipistrelle, which is our smallest species, is the bat that most people in the UK encounter and can often been seen in gardens and local parks, weighing in at around only 5 grams. The Pipistrelle frequently shares our houses for a roost which is normally occupied during a few months during summer when the females give birth to a single pup.
Bats do not build a nest nor do they cause any damage to your property. Pipistrelle roosts are frequently found in cavity walls, under roofing slates/tiles, behind barge boards/timber cladding. (Insert link to BCT website “Where do Bats Live”)
In Merseyside & West Lancashire the Brown long eared bat is the species most frequently associated with a loft space.
